The thrill of the chase, the musty smells, the eccentric staff. Who needs a mall when all this is available. It's not just clothes either, the assorted bric-a-brac will both amuse and astound.........
If it gets past the eagle eyed sorters and pricers there is always the chance of a real find, rare china, collectible books or music. The variety of stores is amazing, from the chaotic local cats home charity to the nationals like Oxfam who have paid managers and don't even smell! One person of our aquaintance likes to collect rare tupperware, they assure us this is the best source!
A visit will provide a new outfit for virtually nothing, it only has to be worn once to repay the investment. Why not donate unwanted items back to the same shop? Either that or purchase extra wardrobes for storage! An ideal source for extra drinks glasses and crockery for that one-off party, cheaper than hiring, and a charity benefits. If you donate it back, they benefit twice!
An interesting activity is to arrange a party, instead of fancy dress, make it opshop dress, set a low price limit, give small prizes for most original, most retro, etc. Hours of fun. You may love it so much that you volunteer to work in one, after all staff do get first look at any treasure!
