They look great in the brochures or on the internet, but finding accomodation whilst travelling is a lottery. When we go on holiday we seek a guesthouse or hotel where the staff are friendly and efficient, in a suitable location and of course value for money...............
Look no further. A website called wwwtripadvisor.com. comes in very useful. It does what it says in the title, with a warts and all review of most accommodation worldwide.
Enter the name of your prospective accommodation and there will be reviews of the property written by people who have actually stayed there, not to mention a description of the hotel and some of the best deals available. It makes facinating reading, and is actually quite addictive..it can be amusing to compare reviews from actual guests with the hotels own website!
Beware!! It is quite common for an hotel to have several really good reviews and then a bad one. It is so easy to ignore the good ones and dismiss the accommodation simply because of one bad review. Perhaps the person who wrote the poor review was exceedingly particular, maybe looking for 5 star at 2 star prices, or had simply had a row with their fellow travellers! Weigh up the pros and cons but you will get a fair idea of your hotel choice from this site, as well as handy hints and tips (sometimes) about the locality.
If you are looking for somewhere to stay and are prepared to delay booking, there are sites with discount deals for accommodation to be taken in the next 2 to 4 weeks, sometimes if you look up the actual hotel, they will have last minute offers which are often discounted by up to 50%.
When you return from holiday you are able to write your own reviews of the places where you stayed, and even post pictures on to the tripadvisor website. Maybe there is an hotel that you have stayed in on a previous vacation. Why not look it up and check to see if the reviews agree with your opinions.
