The beginners page for starting on a computer adventure. Do you know how you got to this page? If so you are well on the way to knowing your way around the internet. But, if you think there may be more to know, read on..............................
First. Lets make sure you can always get back here to this page. Use the mouse or the finger pad on a laptop to click on the word FAVORITES (or BOOKMARKS) written along the top of your screen (usually about fourth item from the right.) A box will appear with a list of sites which you or another user will have made their favorite sites or "bookmarks" so that they can return to them. The first line appearing below favorites will say "Add to favorites" move the cursor (mouse) over this box and click. An oblong box now appears at the top of the screen. In the white box at the bottom it should say, "Alice in computerland", or zazzylife. Now click on the "OK" label in the top right of this oblong box. The oblong box will disappear and this page should appear at the bottom of the list of favorites next time you press "favorites"
If there is a long list of "favorites"you will have to move the mouse to the bottom of the list and hopefully the list will roll up to the page you previously bookmarked, now click on "Alice" and this page should re-appear! hurrah!
If this computer is connected to a printer, get someone to print out this page, or do it yourself by running the mouse over the symbol of a printer at the top of your screen, you will know if it is the right one as a little box will appear next to the symbol saying...guess what?...printer...click over the symbol, a screen or two might appear asking for preferences, just click on the "ok" box for all of them for now, hopefully this page will print, now you can keep it for reference. Time for a coffee I think! |
